SLUCare's team of specially trained cardiac anesthesiologists uses the latest diagnostic tools available to care for you during your heart procedure, including transesophageal echocardiography to assess the overall function of the heart's chambers and valves.

Transesophageal echocardiography can determine the presence of some types of heart disease, including valvular disease, myocardial disease, pericardial disease and congenital heart disease. SLUCare cardiac anesthesiologists use this information to provide you with the best care possible during and after your surgery.

SLUCare critical care medicine specialists are fellowship-trained and board-certified in treating critically ill or injured patients. Practicing primarily in the surgical intensive care units (SICU) at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, our team includes highly trained nurses, respiratory therapists, resident physicians and other staff dedicated to treating critically ill and injured patients.

We care for people with a wide range of complex medical problems, including infection, heart disease, and liver, kidney, and respiratory failure. Our team is involved with a patient's care before any planned surgery and makes sure that the patient is in optimal condition prior to proceeding to the operating room. We also coordinate anesthesia care with our colleagues in the operating room, and we provide all post-operative care.

SLUCare critical care medicine specialists participate in patient care around the clock until the patient is well enough to be discharged to a less intensive setting. In addition, as part of an academic medical practice, our critical care team is involved in the education of hospital staff and physician residents to ensure our patients receive the best possible care.
